Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) in Wallace County, Kansas: The Complete Guide by OilWell Cannabis

If you’re reading this from a farmhouse outside Sharon Springs, from the bench at the Wallace County Fairgrounds, or from your truck after a long day in the wheat fields, you’re in the right place. We wrote this for you. Not for coastal investors or big-city dispensary chains—for the people of Wallace County who’ve been told cannabis is either a miracle cure or a dangerous drug, but never given the honest science in between.

Wallace County, Kansas is a place where hard work isn’t a talking point—it’s survival. From the golden wheat stretching across the High Plains to the cattle operations that define our rural economy, this is a community built on calloused hands and quiet perseverance. It’s also a community where healthcare isn’t always down the street. When the nearest pain specialist is a two-hour drive to Garden City or Denver, and when the opioid crisis has touched families from Weskan to the Colorado border, people start looking for options. That’s why RSO matters here.

But let’s start with what RSO is not. It’s not magic. It’s not a guaranteed cancer cure. And it’s not illegal—not when it’s done right. Let’s walk through the real story, the real science, and the real options for Wallace County residents who want to make informed decisions about their health.

Understanding Rick Simpson Oil: The History You Need to Know

Rick Simpson wasn’t a doctor. He was a power engineer from Nova Scotia—a working-class guy like many folks in Wallace County. In 1997, he fell from scaffolding at a hospital (the irony wasn’t lost on him) and suffered a head injury that left him with ringing ears, dizziness, and chronic pain. The doctors gave him medications that didn’t work or made things worse. When he asked about cannabis, his physician refused. So he found his own path.

Simpson learned about a 1974 NIH study from the Medical College of Virginia showing THC could slow tumors in mice. He started making his own concentrated cannabis oil using naphtha or isopropyl alcohol—both highly toxic solvents. In 2003, he claimed three bumps on his arm diagnosed as basal cell carcinoma disappeared after he applied the oil directly. No biopsy. No medical verification. Just his personal testimony. That moment—unverified but deeply personal—became the origin story for what the world now calls Rick Simpson Oil .

The 60-Gram Protocol: What Simpson Recommended

Simpson believed in a 60-gram treatment course over 90 days. Here’s exactly what he prescribed:

Week 1: Start with a dose the size of half a grain of rice—about 10-15mg—three times daily. That’s roughly 30-45mg per day.

Weeks 2-5: Double the dose every four days until reaching 1 gram (1,000mg) per day, split into three doses.

Weeks 5-12: Maintain 1 gram daily until all 60 grams are consumed.

Administration: He recommended oral consumption (sublingual or swallowed) as primary, topical for skin issues, and inhalation only for immediate symptom relief—not as the main treatment .

The Problems with Traditional RSO

Here’s where we need to be straight with Wallace County folks. Simpson’s protocol was crude. It worked for his context—illegal production, no labs, no standards—but it has real problems:

  1. No standardization. Every batch was different because it depended on the strain, growing conditions, and extraction method. One syringe might be 60% THC, another 90%. That’s like taking a pain pill without knowing if it’s 200mg or 800mg.

  2. Toxic solvents. Naphtha contains benzene and toluene—known carcinogens. Isopropyl alcohol isn’t meant for consumption. Without lab testing, you can’t know if any solvent remains. In Wallace County, where we value clean air, water, and soil, knowingly consuming petroleum residues doesn’t align with our values.

  3. Destroying the plant’s complexity. The high heat used to evaporate solvents (around 180°F) burned off terpenes—the aromatic compounds that give cannabis its smell and may contribute to its effects. Traditional RSO was essentially just THC tar, missing the full plant profile.

  4. Extremely high THC exposure. At peak dosing, Simpson’s protocol delivered 600-900mg of delta-9 THC daily. That’s 30-45 times higher than the FDA-approved drug dronabinol (typically 2.5-20mg/day). At those doses, patients faced severe intoxication, anxiety, tachycardia, and potential cannabis use disorder [15].

  5. No medical oversight. Simpson had no clinical training. He never published a trial. His “evidence” was personal stories, not peer-reviewed science .

Important context: Simpson’s story is historically significant—it sparked a global movement—but it’s personal testimony, not medical proof. In Wallace County, where we trust our neighbors but also verify with facts, this distinction matters.

What Simpson Got Right (and Wrong)

What he got right: He forced the world to take cannabinoids seriously. He gave his oil away for free (over 5,000 people by his count) and taught people to make it themselves . He created the conditions that eventually led to the 2018 Farm Bill and legal hemp products. The term “RSO” remains the most recognized name for full-spectrum cannabis oil.

What he overstated: He claimed RSO could “cure” cancer, diabetes, infections, glaucoma, arthritis, depression, insomnia, and more . The National Cancer Institute acknowledges cannabinoid anticancer research but does not endorse cannabis as a cancer treatment . No human clinical trial has demonstrated RSO cures cancer. Encouraging patients to forgo proven treatments carries real harm potential.

About OilWell Cannabis: From a Paralyzed Dog to Wallace County

OilWell Cannabis didn’t start in a boardroom. It started with a dog named Bentley.

The Bentley Story: Where Our Mission Began

Colin Valencia, OilWell’s founder, grew up in McAllen, Texas—one of the most economically challenged and dangerous border regions in America, plagued by cartel violence and limited opportunity. By sixteen, he’d left home after seeing friends killed or imprisoned. He chose cannabis over darker paths, learning the plant intimately in the traditional, pre-legalization world.

Years later, after becoming a trained software engineer who did custom development for Baylor College of Medicine, his companion Bentley—a dog who’d been family through it all—faced euthanasia. Paralyzed in his hind legs, in terrible pain, the vets said nothing could be done but end his suffering.

A rescue worker named Jessica asked Colin: “You’ve moved how many tons of weed and you’ve never heard of CBD?”

That question changed everything. Colin created a CBD golden paste for Bentley. And Bentley got up. He walked over and brought Colin his ball. From paralyzed to playing fetch. This wasn’t placebo—dogs don’t respond to placebo. It was real cannabinoid medicine doing what pharmaceuticals couldn’t.

Bentley lived ten more years, dying naturally at age twenty. During that decade, Colin developed formulas for every condition Bentley faced: neurodegeneration (CBG for neuroprotection, THCa for brain cell support), dementia (CBC for neurogenesis), glaucoma (THC for eye pressure), arthritis (multi-pathway anti-inflammation with CBD, CBG, THCa, and beta-caryophyllene). Single cannabinoids weren’t enough. Bentley needed a symphony.

From Dog to Human: The Leap to RSO

That same multi-cannabinoid precision became the foundation of our RSO formula. When Colin faced his own battle with PTSD and benzodiazepine addiction, he quit Xanax cold turkey using the cannabinoid knowledge he’d built keeping Bentley alive. The Peace Gummies formula—now one of our best-selling products—was born from midnight experiments during benzo withdrawal. Colin still personally uses the vape form for insomnia and severe PTSD.

The lesson for Wallace County: We didn’t design our RSO formula in a lab to maximize profit. We designed it because we lived the desperation of watching a loved one suffer, of being failed by conventional medicine, of needing something that actually worked. That’s the same desperation many Wallace County families feel when they watch a loved one struggle with chronic pain, cancer treatment side effects, or opioid dependence.

Why We’re Different: Four Core Principles

Our RSO is not traditional Rick Simpson Oil. It’s a modern, formulated evolution that solves the problems Simpson’s crude method couldn’t:

  1. Accessibility over gatekeeping. No medical card required. Anyone 21+ can purchase. We ship nationwide—including to Wallace County, Kansas—and internationally. Simpson believed medicine should be free; we believe it should be legally accessible. In Kansas, where medical cannabis doesn’t exist, this is the only legal pathway.

  2. Patient-controlled potency. We preserve THCa as a separate ingredient (1,500mg). You decide: use it raw for non-psychoactive daytime relief, or decarboxylate at home for full psychoactive potency. Simpson gave patients one option—overwhelmingly high THC. We give Wallace County residents the freedom to choose based on their lifestyle.

  3. Open-source formulas. We publish every milligram. If you can’t afford $129.99 for our sublingual oil, you can source the ingredients and make your own. That aligns with rural Kansas values of self-reliance and community sharing. We’ll even tell you our exact recipe—because Bentley’s life was saved by a shared recipe, not a proprietary secret.

  4. Evidence-informed, not evidence-overstated. The research citations throughout this guide are real. We don’t claim our RSO cures cancer because the science doesn’t support that. We do claim it contains seven cannabinoids at specific ratios backed by varying levels of research—and we show you that research.

ABC13 Houston: Media Validation You Can Verify

Between 2019 and 2023, ABC13 Houston—America’s fourth-largest city’s number-one news source—featured Colin in seven comprehensive segments. Tom Abrahams, Steve Campion, Shelley Childers, Nick Natario, and other reporters sought us out for business, legal, medical, and community health stories. No other Houston cannabis operator matches that frequency or breadth.

What that means for Wallace County: You can’t buy that kind of credibility. When major-market journalists vet us for four years, it’s because we answer questions honestly—even when it’s uncomfortable. Like when Steve Campion asked why someone would want to smoke Delta-8, and Colin replied: “Maybe you want to get high.” That’s not corporate speak. That’s the honesty Wallace County expects from a neighbor.

The Legal Reality: Farm Bill Compliance in Kansas

Let’s address the elephant in the room: Is this legal in Wallace County, Kansas?

Yes—because of the 2018 Farm Bill and a crucial chemical distinction.

Our RSO Sublingual Oil contains only 90mg of delta-9 THC in the entire 30mL bottle—that’s 3mg per mL, well under the 0.3% federal limit. All cannabinoids are hemp-derived. Under Kansas law and federal law, this product is legal hemp, not marijuana.

The THCa Distinction: Why This Matters for Kansas

Here’s the magic: We include 1,500mg of THCa—tetrahydrocannabinolic acid. THCa is the non-psychoactive precursor to THC. It’s not delta-9 THC. At the point of sale, our product is Farm Bill compliant.

But you control the conversion: Heat the oil at 260°F for 45-60 minutes, and that 1,500mg THCa converts to approximately 1,315mg of delta-9 THC. Combined with the existing 90mg delta-9, you get ~1,405mg total delta-9 THC—comparable to traditional illegal RSO. All legally, because the conversion happens in your kitchen, not in our lab.

Three usage options for Wallace County residents:

  • Raw (no heat): All 1,500mg stays as THCa—non-psychoactive, perfect for daytime use while working on the farm or running errands in Sharon Springs.
  • Fully activated (home decarb): Get the full psychoactive experience for nighttime pain or severe symptoms.
  • Vape (instant decarb): Our RSO Vape Cartridge heats to 400-450°F, converting THCa instantly with each puff—fastest relief for breakthrough pain.

Kansas legal notice: THCa converts to delta-9 THC when heated. You are responsible for understanding and complying with local laws. We ship to Wallace County with full documentation, COAs, and receipts. International customers accept all customs risk. Void where prohibited.

Our RSO Formulas: The Complete Breakdown

We publish everything. Here are the exact formulas—a level of transparency no other RSO brand offers.

RSO Sublingual Oil — $129.99

30mL bottle | 16,590mg total cannabinoids | 553mg/mL

Cannabinoid Amount Why It Matters for Wallace County
CBD 4,500mg Strongest evidence for seizure, anxiety, and pain support. For Wallace County residents dealing with chronic pain from years of physical labor.
CBG 3,000mg Neuroprotective properties for aging farmers and ranchers concerned about cognitive health.
Delta-8 THC 6,000mg Less anxiety-inducing than delta-9, provides pain relief without overwhelming psychoactivity—important for those new to cannabis.
THCa 1,500mg Your choice: Raw for daytime functionality, or decarb for full potency. Gives Wallace County residents control.
Delta-9 THC 90mg Minimal legal amount; the THCa gives you the real THC power if you choose to activate it.
CBN 750mg Marketed for sleep; evidence is emerging but promising for insomnia common in our aging population.
CBC 750mg Anti-inflammatory and neurogenesis potential—relevant for arthritis and cognitive concerns.
Total 16,590mg This is 553mg per mL—far more concentrated than typical CBD oils available in Kansas.

Live terpenes at 5%: Limonene (citrus-bright), Myrcene, Caryophyllene (pepper/spice—activates CB2 receptors), Pinene (forest-fresh), Linalool (floral, lavender), Humulene (earthy), Terpinolene (piney, fruity). The terpene profile gives our RSO a complex aroma that connects to the natural scents Wallace County residents know—the pine windbreaks, the wheat fields, the clean prairie air.

Base: Organic MCT oil (food-grade, no solvents)

Onset & Duration: Sublingual absorption begins in 15-45 minutes, peaks at 1-2 hours, lasts 4-6 hours. This sustained release is ideal for managing chronic pain through a full day of work.

Dosing: Graduated dropper allows precise 0.1mL increments (55.3mg cannabinoids per click). Start low, go slow—especially important in Kansas where most people have limited cannabis experience.

How Wallace County Residents Use Our RSO

We can’t give medical advice—Kansas law and FDA regulations are clear on that. But we can share how people in similar rural communities use these products, based on the evidence and our experience.

Chronic Pain from Agricultural Work

Wallace County’s economy runs on wheat and cattle. That means decades of physical strain, joint wear, and injuries. Our sublingual oil is designed for this:

  • Daytime: 0.3-0.5mL raw (non-decarbed) keeps THCa inactive. You get anti-inflammatory support (THCa via COX-2 inhibition [12], caryophyllene via CB2 activation [24]) without impairment. You can still operate equipment safely.
  • Nighttime: 0.5-1.0mL decarboxylated combines delta-8 and delta-9 THC for pain relief with 25-50mg CBN for sleep architecture [16][17].
  • Breakthrough pain: 2-3 vape puffs deliver near-instant relief when pain spikes unexpectedly.

Evidence context: CBD shows modest pain benefit in systematic reviews [4]. Delta-9 THC has stronger pain evidence but carries psychoactive risks [13]. Delta-8 offers a middle ground [9]. The multi-cannabinoid approach targets multiple pain pathways simultaneously—something single-cannabinoid products can’t match.

Sleep Support for Our Aging Population

Wallace County’s median age is higher than the national average. Sleep disorders are common.

  • Protocol: 1.0-2.0mL sublingual oil 30 minutes before bed.
  • At 2.0mL: You get 50mg CBN—the dose investigated in recent sleep literature [16][17].
  • At 1.0mL: You get 25mg CBN, still above the 20mg threshold associated with reduced sleep disturbance.

Reality check: CBN’s sleep evidence is emerging, not established [16][17]. But the combination of CBN with relaxing terpenes (myrcene, linalool) and mild THC creates a sedation effect many users report beneficial.

Anxiety and Stress in Isolated Rural Life

Rural living has unique stressors: isolation, weather uncertainty, economic pressure.

  • Daytime functional relief: 0.3mL raw sublingual provides 166mg CBD + 100mg CBG without impairment. CBD has anxiolytic evidence [3]; CBG shows promise for anxiety in early research [7][8].
  • Evening winding down: 0.5mL sublingual with terpenes like limonene and linalool for mood support [20][25].

Support During Cancer Treatment

We must be crystal clear: Our RSO is not a cancer cure. The National Cancer Institute confirms no cannabis product has been proven to cure cancer in humans . However, the evidence does support cannabinoids for managing chemotherapy side effects:

  • Nausea: Delta-8 THC shows antiemetic properties [9]. Delta-9 THC is FDA-approved for chemo nausea [1][13]. Our vape provides fast relief during treatment.
  • Appetite: THC stimulates appetite—critical during treatment.
  • Sleep and anxiety: CBD and CBN help manage the psychological burden.

Critical: If you’re receiving cancer treatment at Goodland Regional Medical Center, St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, or traveling to Denver’s cancer centers, discuss any cannabinoid use with your oncologist. Cannabinoids can interact with medications. Do not replace proven treatments with RSO. Use it as a complementary tool for symptom management, not a cure.

Wallace County-Specific Safety Considerations

Drug Testing in Kansas

Critical for Wallace County workers: Many employers in Kansas still drug test, especially in agriculture, transportation, and government.

  • Raw THCa (no heat): Should not trigger standard THC drug tests, which look for delta-9 metabolites. However, some advanced tests may detect cannabinoid metabolites broadly.
  • Decarboxylated (heated): Will absolutely trigger THC drug tests. Delta-8 THC also triggers tests [10].
  • Vape: Will trigger tests.

Bottom line for Wallace County workers: If your job requires drug testing (KDOT, CDL positions, county employment), use the raw form only, and understand the risk. We cannot guarantee you’ll pass a test. Employer policies vary.

Driving and Operating Equipment

Wallace County runs on machinery—tractors, combines, trucks. Never drive or operate heavy equipment under the influence of psychoactive cannabinoids.

  • Raw THCa: Non-psychoactive, no impairment.
  • Decarboxylated: Significant impairment possible. Wait 6-8 hours before operating equipment.
  • Vape: Impairment within minutes, lasts 2-4 hours.

Kansas DUI laws include cannabis impairment. A conviction can impact your CDL, insurance, and employment.

Pregnancy and Family Safety

If you’re pregnant or nursing, do not use our RSO without consulting a healthcare provider. The FDA warns against cannabis use during pregnancy [1].

Keep out of reach of children and pets. The concentrated oil can be dangerous if ingested accidentally. Store in a locked medicine cabinet—just like any prescription medication.

Open-Source Formulas: Make It Yourself

We publish our complete formulas because Simpson taught us medicine should be accessible. If you can’t afford $129.99, here’s exactly what’s in our sublingual oil:

DIY RSO Sublingual Oil Recipe

For Wallace County makers who prefer to DIY:

  • CBD distillate/isolate: 4,500mg
  • CBG distillate/isolate: 3,000mg
  • Delta-8 THC distillate: 6,000mg
  • THCa isolate: 1,500mg
  • Delta-9 THC distillate: 90mg

  • CBC isolate: 750mg
  • Live terpene blend: 5% by weight (limonene, myrcene, caryophyllene, pinene, linalool, humulene, terpinolene)
  • Organic MCT oil: QSAD to 30mL

Instructions:

  1. Warm MCT oil to 120°F (use a double boiler, not direct heat)
  2. Dissolve cannabinoid distillates/isolates one at a time, stirring thoroughly
  3. Add terpene blend last (terpenes are volatile)
  4. Store in amber glass dropper bottle

Safety note for Wallace County DIYers: Source ingredients only from reputable suppliers with COAs. Kansas doesn’t regulate hemp ingredient purity—we’ve seen contaminated products from online marketplaces. If you can’t verify quality, buying our pre-made product is safer.

Bentley’s Original CBD Golden Paste (Free Recipe)

Since we’re sharing recipes, here’s the one that saved Bentley—published for free, just like Simpson would have done:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup organic turmeric powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup unrefined organic coconut oil
  • 1-2 tsp freshly ground black pepper (for absorption)
  • CBD oil (pet-appropriate dosage; consult your Wallace County veterinarian)

Instructions:
Mix turmeric and water over low heat to form a thick paste (7-10 min). Add coconut oil and pepper. Cool and refrigerate up to 2 weeks. Mix with pet food daily.

For Wallace County pet owners: This recipe works for dogs, cats, and livestock. Many of our customers in rural Kansas use it for aging farm dogs with arthritis. Always start low and monitor.

FAQs from Wallace County Customers

Q: Is this really legal in Wallace County, Kansas?

A: Yes. Our product contains less than 0.3% delta-9 THC at point of sale, making it hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill and Kansas law. THCa is not delta-9 THC. However, if you decarboxylate it at home, the resulting oil will be psychoactive and may not be legal to possess under Kansas law if it exceeds 0.3% delta-9. We provide documentation, but you’re responsible for compliance.

Q: Will I get high?

A: Only if you choose to. Raw THCa is non-psychoactive. Decarboxylate it, and you’ll have ~1,405mg delta-9 THC in the bottle—comparable to traditional RSO. The vape cartridge is always psychoactive because heating converts THCa instantly.

Q: Can I pass a drug test in Kansas?

A: Using raw THCa only gives you the best chance, but we cannot guarantee it. Decarboxylated oil or vape will cause you to fail. Kansas employers often use strict testing. If your job depends on it, don’t risk it.

Q: How do I know this isn’t snake oil?

A: Two reasons: First, we publish our exact formula—snake oil salesmen don’t give away their recipe. Second, every cannabinoid claim is tied to peer-reviewed research [1]-[29]. We tell you what works, what might work, and what doesn’t.

Q: My doctor in Goodland doesn’t know about this. What should I do?

A: Print our GENERAL KNOWLEDGE section (pages 18-29 of this guide) and the COA from your shipment. Ask your doctor to review the evidence. Many Kansas physicians are learning about cannabinoids but need patient-led conversations. Respect their expertise, but advocate for yourself.

Q: Can I travel with this in Kansas?

A: Kansas doesn’t have CBD-specific travel restrictions. Keep the product in original packaging with the COA. Don’t carry more than one bottle. Don’t use it while driving. If stopped, explain it’s Farm Bill-compliant hemp oil with documentation.

Q: What if customs seizes my international order?

A: We ship internationally, but Kansas residents typically don’t need this. If you’re sending to family abroad, they accept all customs risk. We provide documentation, but every country has different laws.

Wallace County residents: You’re welcome to call during business hours with Kansas-specific questions. If you get voicemail, leave your name and mention you’re from Wallace County—we’ll call back within 24 hours.

Final Word to Wallace County

We know Wallace County isn’t looking for hype. You’re looking for honest options when the doctor says, “There’s nothing more we can do.” When the pain meds cause more problems than they solve. When you can’t afford to drive 200 miles to see a specialist.

Our RSO isn’t magic. It’s science—imperfect, evolving science, but grounded in real research. We publish our formula because we believe you deserve to know exactly what you’re putting in your body. We talk about evidence limitations because we respect your intelligence.

Rick Simpson started a movement by giving oil away for free to people in pain. We honor that by making our formula open-source and shipping it legally to places like Wallace County that prohibition left behind.

The question Jessica asked Colin—“You’ve moved how many tons of weed and you’ve never heard of CBD?”—is the same question we’re asking Kansas: Why are we still pretending legal, tested cannabinoids don’t exist?

Bentley got up and walked. Colin quit benzos. Veterans we work with report PTSD relief they couldn’t get from the VA. These are anecdotes, not proof—but they’re honest anecdotes from real people.

If you’re in Wallace County and you’re curious, call us. Ask the hard questions. Read the research yourself [1]-[29]. Talk to your doctor in Goodland. And if you decide to try it, know that you’re getting the most transparent, evidence-aware RSO product available anywhere—made by people who’ve lived the desperation you’re feeling.

This is our promise to Wallace County: No snake oil. No false hope. Just real formulas, real research, and real people who answer the phone when you call.

The information provided is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Wallace County residents should consult their healthcare provider before using any cannabinoid product, especially if pregnant, nursing, taking medications, or managing a medical condition. Do not operate vehicles or machinery while under the influence of psychoactive cannabinoids. Keep all products out of reach of children and pets. Buyer assumes all legal responsibility for compliance with Kansas and local laws. OilWell Cannabis assumes no liability for misuse or home decarboxylation decisions. Product contains less than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight at point of sale. THCa converts to delta-9 THC when heated—this conversion may affect product legality in Kansas. Void where prohibited by law.

Legal Notice for Kansas Residents: Kansas law prohibits marijuana. This product is hemp-derived and Farm Bill compliant at time of sale. Decarboxylation (heating) converts THCa to delta-9 THC, potentially creating a product that exceeds Kansas legal limits for delta-9 THC. OilWell provides the raw material only; all conversion decisions and legal responsibility rest with the customer. We recommend Wallace County residents consult legal counsel if uncertain about local regulations.
